A lively afternoon of games, learning, and community fellowship recently filled the Jamaica Muslim Center in Jamaica, Queens, as families gathered for Family Fun Day, an event designed to bring children and parents together in a warm, welcoming setting.
Held on Sunday, April 12, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at 85-37 JMC Way, Jamaica, NY 11432, the program was organized and supported by JMC, Save The People USA (STPUSA), and BHALO. The event drew hundreds of children, many between the ages highlighted in promotional materials, along with parents and other family members who joined in the afternoon’s activities.
The gathering was hosted by Mohammed Bahe, who served as the voice of the event and helped guide children and families through the program. Throughout the day, participants took part in a wide range of activities, including friendly games, Islamic quizzes, and educational sessions aimed at making learning both engaging and enjoyable. The combination of recreation and faith-based learning gave the event a balanced community feel, where children could play, compete, and grow at the same time.
Food was also an important part of the afternoon, with items including pizza served to attendees. In addition to meals and refreshments, children received toys, prizes, and other giveaways, adding to the festive atmosphere. The event materials had promised “free food, prizes and games,” and the turnout suggested strong enthusiasm for a family-centered program that offered all three.
Parents who attended were able to watch their children participate while also connecting with other families in an informal social setting. That community element gave the event added value beyond entertainment alone. In bringing families together under one roof, the organizers created a space for relationship-building and shared experience within the neighborhood.
Programs like Family Fun Day often serve a broader purpose than simple recreation. By combining play, education, and social interaction, they help strengthen community bonds and provide children with positive, structured opportunities to engage with peers.
At the Jamaica Muslim Center, that purpose was on full display. With children laughing, learning, and taking part in activities throughout the afternoon, the event offered a reminder of how local institutions and community groups can create meaningful, joyful spaces for families in Queens.
