History came to life through games, creativity, and friendship as more than 25 children gathered for an America 250 Summer School Celebration hosted by Save the People at the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Islamic Center New York.
Held on July 23, the program gave young participants an opportunity to celebrate the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States while learning about the values connected with the nation’s history. The afternoon combined educational activities with games, food, toys, and time for children to build new friendships.
The celebration centered on themes of diversity, freedom, unity, respect, and community service. Through age-appropriate lessons and activities, the children explored how people from different backgrounds contribute to American life and how shared responsibility helps strengthen neighborhoods and communities.
Hafiz Mohammed Haque moderated the program, helping guide the children through the celebration and its educational themes. Save the People also thanked the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Islamic Center New York for welcoming the children and providing a space where families and community members could gather.
The event balanced learning with recreation. Creative projects and games kept participants engaged, while food and toys added to the festive atmosphere. Organizers presented the program as a way for children to connect American history with values they experience in daily life, including cooperation, mutual respect, and service to others.
The celebration also reflected the role of local institutions in helping young people understand citizenship and belonging. By bringing children together in a faith-based community setting, the event showed how cultural identity and American civic life can be explored side by side.
For the participants, the afternoon offered more than a summer activity. It provided a setting where children could learn, celebrate, and connect with one another while developing a stronger understanding of the country they call home.
The message of the program was expressed in its closing theme: “One Nation. Many Stories. Stronger Together.” Through the America 250 celebration, Save the People emphasized the importance of preparing a new generation to value history, respect differences, and contribute to a stronger community.
