A cloudy sky and intermittent winds did little to dampen the spirit of celebration as members of Dhaka University Forum Canada gathered for a vibrant community picnic at Thomson Memorial Park on June 14, 2026. Bringing together both recent and former graduates of Dhaka University, the event offered a day of friendship, nostalgia, and cultural celebration in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The annual picnic served as an opportunity for alumni to reconnect, strengthen old friendships, and welcome newer graduates into the growing network of Bangladeshi professionals and families living in Canada. Throughout the day, attendees shared stories from their university years, reflecting on cherished memories while creating new ones with fellow alumni.
The cultural segment added a special touch to the gathering, featuring poetry recitations, musical performances, and informal storytelling sessions. Participants celebrated their shared heritage through performances that highlighted the rich literary and cultural traditions associated with Dhaka University, one of Bangladesh’s most respected educational institutions.
The event also offered an impressive selection of traditional refreshments and meals. Guests enjoyed breakfast in the morning, followed by a hearty lunch. As the afternoon progressed, participants gathered again for light refreshments that included sweets, spicy puffed rice, and fresh watermelon, creating a festive atmosphere that encouraged conversation and relaxation.
Children remained at the center of the celebration, taking part in a variety of games and recreational activities organized throughout the day. Their laughter and enthusiasm added to the lively environment, making the picnic an enjoyable experience for families of all ages.
Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, attendance remained strong as alumni chose to embrace the opportunity to spend quality time together. The gathering reflected the enduring bond shared by Dhaka University graduates, demonstrating how educational connections continue to unite people across continents long after graduation.
Organizers expressed sincere appreciation to the members of Dhaka University Forum Canada whose dedication and volunteer efforts helped make the picnic a memorable success. The event concluded on a positive note, leaving participants with renewed friendships, lasting memories, and anticipation for future gatherings that continue to strengthen the Bangladeshi community in Canada.
Photographs of the event were captured by Kazi Hasan Sarowar, documenting the memorable moments shared throughout the day.
