A longtime destination for halal meat in Woodside, Queens, has entered a new chapter, as Bismillah Halal Live Poultry, Meat, Fish & Groceries expanded its offerings while reaffirming a relationship with local families built over the past 24 years.
The renewed operation places a strong focus on fresh halal products, including live chicken, goats and lambs, alongside meat, fish and groceries. A new selection of organic goat meat has also joined the store’s offerings. The business, located at 37-15 55th Street in Woodside, displays approval from the Shariah Board of New York, reflecting its focus on serving customers seeking halal food choices. Store signage also identifies halal monitoring and advertises live goats and lambs.
The new initiative was marked by a community gathering attended by local figures, including noted photojournalist Nihar Siddiqui. The occasion also became a moment of remembrance for late Bangladeshi photojournalist Lutfor Rahman Binu, father of Bidita Rahman Bhuiyan and father-in-law of Bismillah owner Salam Bhuiyan. Senior journalist Akbar Haider Kiron recalled Binu’s connection to the business, saying he regularly spent time at Bismillah during visits to New York and met members of the expatriate community there.
Mirza Abu Zafar Beg spoke about the business and its latest initiative, while Imam Muhammad Shahidullah conducted the program. Imam Fayeq Uddin offered a special prayer for the continued success of the establishment and for the late Lutfor Rahman Binu. Mirza Abu Zafar Beg, Imam of Jamaica Muslim Center, also led a munajat.
For Salam Bhuiyan, the renewed operation builds on more than two decades of serving New Yorkers seeking fresh halal food. He expressed gratitude for the community’s longstanding trust and reaffirmed the business’s commitment to providing wholesome halal meat.
With its expanded selection of live poultry, goats, lambs, organic goat meat, fish and groceries, Bismillah is seeking to continue its established role among halal consumers while offering more choices under one roof.
