Back-to-School Carnival Brings Family Fun to Jamaica

The start of a new school year became a community celebration in Jamaica, Queens, as families gathered for the Back-to-School Carnival 2026, a six-hour event combining children’s activities, food, games and neighborhood participation.

Held on Saturday, September 19, from 1 to 7 p.m., at 85-37 JMC Way, Jamaica, NY 11432, the carnival was presented as an event for the whole family. Promotional materials listed JMC Youth, Elhaam Academy, Save the People, MusCare and Al-Mamoor School among the organizations involved in the program, reflecting a collaborative effort centered on children and families.

The carnival offered several attractions for young visitors. A bouncy castle and petting zoo were among the featured activities, alongside games and other entertainment. Vendors and food were also part of the event, with the street designated for vendor use during the program. Families had access to different activity bands and passes for the bouncy attraction and petting zoo.

Traditional carnival treats added to the atmosphere. Snow cones, popcorn and cotton candy were offered at the concession stand for $1 each, while organizers promoted the gathering with the message “Community Fun Together!”

The timing gave the event a clear connection to the beginning of the academic year. Rather than focusing only on classroom preparation, the carnival created a setting where students and parents from the surrounding community had an opportunity to spend time together through recreation and family activities.

The involvement of JMC Youth, Elhaam Academy, Save the People, MusCare and Al-Mamoor School also brought educational, youth and community-service organizations together around the back-to-school season. Their participation placed community partnership at the center of the day.
