Young people and community members gathered in Jamaica, Queens, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, for a five-hour Youth Safety Day workshop focused on personal safety, crime prevention, emergency readiness, family protection, and community support. Held from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 87-41 165th Street, Jamaica, NY 11432, the event encouraged youth to become informed, prepared, and engaged in building safer neighborhoods.
The free community program was presented with the involvement of Save the People USA and the Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY). Built around the message “Working Together for a Safer, Stronger Community,” the workshop combined educational sessions with open discussion, giving participants space to ask questions and learn from community leaders and professionals.
Featured instructors included Imam Muhammad Shahidullah and Melvin Sharty, who guided conversations on youth and family safety, crime prevention, emergency preparedness, and access to community resources. The program also welcomed Saaif Alam, President of the Jamaica Hills Association, who joined the discussion on local leadership and the role of community organizations in supporting young people.
Attorney Raju Mahajan addressed topics involving youth, career development, and law, offering participants practical insight into professional pathways and legal awareness. His session expanded the workshop beyond immediate safety concerns by connecting personal responsibility with education, career planning, and informed decision-making.
The event’s agenda included personal safety, crime prevention, emergency preparedness, youth and family safety, community resources, and an open question-and-answer session. These topics gave attendees practical information they could apply at home, in school, and throughout their neighborhoods. The five-hour format allowed speakers to address each area while encouraging direct participation from those present.
Messages displayed throughout the program emphasized awareness and preparation, including “Be Safe. Be Aware. Be Prepared.” and “Strong Youth. Strong Communities.” Organizers also reinforced the importance of shared responsibility through the call to “Protect Our Neighborhood.”
By bringing together faith leaders, legal professionals, neighborhood advocates, and young residents, Youth Safety Day created a setting for education and community connection. The workshop closed with a clear focus on helping youth make informed choices and strengthening cooperation among families, organizations, and local leaders.
