The world’s biggest sporting stage has become a new canvas for Bangladeshi-American artist Jihan Wazed, whose monumental mural now welcomes distinguished guests inside the VIP Lounge of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, adding a striking artistic centerpiece to one of the most anticipated venues in international soccer.
Created for the stadium hosting the FIFA World Cup Final, the mural measures approximately 40 feet long and 16 feet high, transforming the VIP Lounge into a vibrant celebration of regional identity and American heritage. The large-scale artwork features recognizable elements of New York, New Jersey, and other iconic American landmarks, offering visitors an immersive visual experience before the championship match.
The completion of the mural marks another significant milestone in Jihan Wazed’s growing career as one of the most recognized muralists in the United States. While the artwork celebrates its surroundings, it also reflects the artist’s broader creative vision of connecting people through public art. His murals frequently incorporate themes of culture, diversity, and shared human experiences, while also drawing inspiration from the landscapes, traditions, and colors of Bangladesh.
The MetLife installation joins an impressive portfolio of permanent public artworks completed by Wazed across the country. His work can be found at the World Trade Center in Manhattan, JFK Airport Terminal 4, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Queens Hospital, and several prominent locations throughout Queens and New York City. His recently completed permanent mural at the Arthur Ashe Stadium for the U.S. Open further strengthened his reputation as a leading public artist.
Among his most recognized community projects are the “Hustle and Bustle” mural celebrating the vibrant energy of Queens, the “Welcome Astoria” mural, and a widely praised Bangladesh Mural in Jackson Heights’ Diversity Plaza, where the red and green colors of the Bangladeshi flag prominently symbolize cultural pride. These works have earned recognition for beautifying neighborhoods while promoting cultural understanding and supporting community well-being.
Beyond mural painting, Jihan Wazed is also involved in sculpture, choreography, and creative new media. Although he studied Perceptual Psychology at Baruch College after attending Stuyvesant High School, his lifelong passion for art ultimately shaped his professional career. Born in Benghazi, Libya, to Dr. Wazed Khan, publisher of the New York-based Weekly Bangladesh, Wazed has continued to build an international artistic presence while remaining deeply connected to his Bangladeshi roots.
As visitors admire his latest creation inside MetLife Stadium, Wazed’s artwork stands as both a celebration of American landmarks and a proud reflection of the contributions of the Bangladeshi-American community to the cultural landscape of the United States.
