In a gathering that blended faith, community leadership, and civic engagement, the Jackson Heights Bangladeshi Business Association of New York (JBBA) hosted its 20th Annual Iftar Dinner on March 12, 2026, at Shanai Restaurant & Party Hall in Jackson Heights, New York. The event brought together elected officials, business leaders, and members of the Bangladeshi-American community to observe the spirit of Ramadan while strengthening community bonds.
The evening program ran from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and was co-sponsored by New York City Comptroller Mark Levine, who attended as the chief guest. Also present as special guests were U.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng, New York State Assemblyman and State Senate candidate Steven Raga, and New York City Council Member Shekar Krishnan. Their participation highlighted the growing civic presence and influence of the Bangladeshi business community in Queens and across New York City.
The program was presided over by JBBA Chairman Shah M. Nawaz, while JBBA Member Secretary Fahad Solaiman served as the moderator and coordinator of the evening’s proceedings. Speakers at the event reflected on the spiritual significance of Ramadan, emphasizing how fasting encourages self-discipline, compassion, and a deeper sense of social responsibility.
Community leaders associated with the organization were also present, including Member Secretary Gias Ahmed, Convener Abul Fazal Dedarul Islam, and Chief Advisor Moin Chowdhury, along with several co-conveners and coordinators who helped organize the annual gathering. Their efforts ensured the smooth coordination of what has become a longstanding Ramadan tradition for the community.
Throughout the evening, speakers called on the community to work collectively for the greater good while promoting unity, harmony, and cooperation within the Bangladeshi diaspora and the broader New York community. Concluding the program, JBBA General Secretary Fahad Solaiman expressed sincere appreciation to all distinguished guests, community leaders, and participants for attending the event.
