In a heartfelt celebration of faith and community, the Jamaica Bangladesh Friends Society (JBFS) Inc. hosted a Community Iftar & Dua Mahfil on February 27, 2026, in Fresh Meadow, New York, drawing a large gathering of Bangladeshi expatriates and community leaders for an evening centered on reflection, unity, and prayer.
Organized in observance of the holy month of Ramadan, the event transformed into what attendees described as a vibrant community reunion. Families, respected elders, representatives of social and cultural organizations, and other distinguished members of the diaspora came together, reinforcing a sense of shared identity and belonging far from their homeland.
The program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, setting a solemn and spiritual tone for the evening. A brief discussion session followed, during which leaders of JBFS highlighted the significance of Ramadan as a month of self-discipline, compassion, and moral renewal. They called upon attendees to strengthen unity, harmony, and humanitarian values within the broader community, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and cooperation.
Before the breaking of the fast, a special dua and munajat was offered for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the country, the nation, and the global Muslim ummah. The prayer was led by a respected Islamic scholar, and the collective supplication created a moment of quiet reflection shared by all in attendance.
In remarks during the program, the organization’s president and general secretary expressed gratitude to guests and community members for their participation and support. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing similar religious and social initiatives in the future, recognizing the essential role such gatherings play in strengthening community ties.
The strong turnout underscored the growing civic and cultural presence of the Bangladeshi diaspora in New York, particularly in neighborhoods like Fresh Meadow and Jamaica. By blending spiritual observance with community engagement, the Community Iftar & Dua Mahfil served not only as a Ramadan tradition but also as a platform for fostering solidarity and reinforcing shared values.
As the evening concluded with the breaking of the fast, the gathering stood as a reminder that even thousands of miles from Bangladesh, faith and fellowship remain powerful forces in uniting a community around common purpose and hope.
