In a solemn and heartfelt observance of International Mother Language Day (February 21), the Bangladesh Society Inc organized a midnight tribute to honor the martyrs of the historic 1952 Language Movement. Community members gathered in the early hours of Ekushe February to lay floral wreaths and pay deep respect to those who sacrificed their lives to protect the Bengali language.
Leaders from various Bangladeshi political, social, and cultural organizations were present at the event, standing together in remembrance of the language heroes. The gathering reflected both reverence and unity, as members of the diaspora came forward to honor a defining chapter in Bangladesh’s history.
Organizers emphasized that the purpose of the program was not only to commemorate the past but also to educate the younger generation about the sacrifices that secured the right to speak and preserve their mother tongue. They noted that remembering the martyrs abroad reinforces cultural identity and instills awareness about the importance of linguistic dignity.
