In the heart of Jackson Heights, a neighborhood known for its vibrant immigrant population, the Queens Bangladesh Society hosted a vital Immigration Awareness Panel Discussion on February 7, 2026, at Chef’s Mahal Restaurant. The event brought together immigration attorneys, community leaders, and concerned residents for an evening of education, empowerment, and solidarity.

With shifting federal policies and increasing uncertainty surrounding immigration enforcement, the event provided timely and essential information for members of the Bangladeshi community and beyond. Panelists included experienced immigration lawyers and advocates who addressed a range of issues—from visa processes and green card applications to asylum rights and deportation defense.

“Many of us have questions, but not everyone has access to the right resources,” said one attendee. “This kind of event gives people clarity and the confidence to move forward.”

The discussion highlighted the need for accurate information and legal support, especially for those facing urgent situations. Panelists encouraged attendees to seek proper legal guidance, avoid misinformation, and understand their rights under city and federal law. Attendees were also provided with multilingual resource guides and referral contacts for legal aid services.

Organizers emphasized that beyond legal information, the event was about building trust and strengthening community ties. “When we come together to share knowledge, we protect each other,” said one organizer. “Our community is strongest when it’s informed.”

The Queens Bangladesh Society, a respected local organization dedicated to civic engagement and community welfare, has a long history of hosting similar initiatives aimed at supporting the needs of Bangladeshi and immigrant families across the borough.

By the end of the evening, attendees expressed appreciation for the initiative and called for more frequent programs to address the evolving landscape of immigration. As one participant put it, “Events like this remind us that we’re not alone—and that knowledge is power.”

In a city built by immigrants, gatherings like these continue to play a crucial role in ensuring that all New Yorkers, regardless of status, have the tools they need to thrive and contribute to their communities.
