The Jamaica Muslim Center (JMC), one of the largest Bangladeshi Muslim religious institutions in New York, held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday morning, December 14, 2025, drawing members and community leaders together for a day of reflection, review, and renewal. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Nazmul H. Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and conducted by Aftab Mannan, Secretary of the outgoing Executive Committee.
The session began with a recitation from the Qur’an and concluded with a heartfelt du’a led by Imam Mirza Abu Jafar Baig. In his opening remarks, Imam Shamsi Ali, Director of JMC, emphasized the sacred role of the mosque, highlighting its spiritual significance and its broader contributions to interfaith harmony in New York City.
Outgoing President Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, now the Chairman of the new Board of Trustees, reflected on his term, which included major advancements in programming and progress on the mosque’s expansion project. His successor, Dr. Nazmul H. Khan, urged the community to continue supporting the initiative through financial contributions, stressing the importance of completing the project efficiently.
Detailed reports were presented by Aftab Mannan and Treasurer Saeed Rahman Labu, who shared summaries of activities and full financial breakdowns from the past two years. Community members actively participated in the review process, offering input and affirming the transparency of operations. The minutes of the previous AGM were unanimously adopted.
A major highlight of the event was the approval and oath-taking ceremony for the newly nominated Executive Committee and Board of Trustees for the 2026–2027 term. The proceedings were led by Syed Mozaffar, a senior community leader and Chair of the Selection Committee, with support from Vice Chair Akhtar Hossain.
The newly elected Executive Committee is led by President Dr. Nazmul H. Khan, with Vice President Aftabuddin Mannan, Secretary Md. Fakhrul Islam Delwar, Joint Secretary Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Treasurer Syed M. Rahman Labu, Assistant Treasurer Shahadat Hasan, and members Mohammad I. Rashed Rana, Mohammad N. Ahsan, Mohammad Shahabul Uddin, Shoeb Bakht, Azahar Haque, Zulkar N. Haider, and Mohammad Saiful Islam.
The new Board of Trustees includes Chairman Dr. Mohammad M. Rahman, Vice Chairman Enam Mohammad Haque, and members Mohammad Shabbir Taher, Mohibul Islam, Asabur Rahman Sabu, Mujibur Rahman, Mohammad A. Mukit, and Mohammad S. Ahmed Humayun.
The event concluded with prayers for unity and success, as the community pledged support to the new leadership. With strong backing and renewed commitment, JMC enters a new chapter, continuing its mission to serve the spiritual, educational, and social needs of New York’s diverse and vibrant Muslim population.
