The UNA-USA Queens Chapter recently welcomed a gathering of local community leaders, advocates, and activists for an inspiring UN Day 2025 Celebration. Held at the UNA-USA Queens Main Office in Jamaica, NY, the event was a fitting tribute to the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations and its ongoing mission to promote peace, human rights, and global cooperation.
As guests gathered in the spacious venue, the air was filled with excitement as they prepared for an evening dedicated to the values of the United Nations. The program began with Dr. Seabelo John, President of UNA-USA Queens, offering a heartfelt address, reflecting on the importance of global cooperation and the role of local communities in supporting international efforts.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Dr. Md. Anamul Hoque, a leading advocate for human rights and the founder of Access to Human Rights International. His powerful speech, “Advocacy on Human Rights and Peace,” resonated deeply with the audience as he emphasized the theme for the year, “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.” Dr. Hoque called for renewed commitment to multilateralism and global peace, encouraging all present to advocate for human rights, foster understanding, and contribute to positive change in their communities.
The evening also recognized several outstanding leaders who have made significant contributions to the advancement of peace and social responsibility. These individuals received leadership awards and certificates, honoring their dedication and efforts to create lasting change in the world. The recognition served as a powerful reminder of the importance of leadership in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and working toward a better, more just world.
Wessal Tawfik, the newly appointed Secretary of UNA-USA Queens, concluded the evening by delivering the 2025 yearbook and offering a vote of thanks to all attendees. She expressed deep gratitude for the support and commitment of community members, noting that their collective efforts continue to make a significant impact on global peace and human rights initiatives.
The UN Day 2025 Celebration hosted by UNA-USA Queens was a resounding success, bringing together like-minded individuals united by a shared vision for peace, justice, and sustainable development. It served as both a reflection on the United Nations’ accomplishments over the past 80 years and a call to action for all to continue working toward a brighter, more peaceful future. Through education, advocacy, and leadership, the event reinforced the importance of collective action and the power of community in achieving global goals.
