In a memorable educational experience, Elhaam Academy students recently visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, where they celebrated the UN’s 80th Anniversary and delved into the principles of global cooperation and peacebuilding. This immersive field trip offered students a unique opportunity to learn about the UN’s mission and its work in solving critical global challenges.
A significant part of the visit was the UN Technology Museum, where students explored groundbreaking achievements like the world’s first satellite and discovered how technology connects nations. The museum’s exhibits highlighted how the UN uses innovation to address pressing global issues, such as climate change, poverty, and education, demonstrating the crucial role of technology in fostering peace and progress worldwide.
The students were also fortunate to meet influential figures, including Shaffiou Assoumanou, the Strategic Relationships Director for Africa at the NYC Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, and Carolina Nazzaro, a UN Official and Global Education Advocate. These distinguished leaders shared their experiences and emphasized the importance of youth involvement in global leadership. Mafizul Islam, another UN official, encouraged students to explore the NYC Junior Ambassadors Program, an initiative aimed at nurturing the next generation of global leaders.
The visit was marked by an interactive Q&A session, where students had the chance to ask UN diplomats about topics such as peacekeeping, international relations, and how technology plays a pivotal role in tackling global challenges. This engaging dialogue empowered students, reinforcing the idea that they too can be agents of change in the world.
Made possible through a partnership with SDG Academy New York and Save the People USA (STPUSA), this educational experience aimed to foster global awareness and inspire students to pursue careers in international diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and global sustainability.
As the students returned to their classrooms, they carried with them a renewed understanding of how science, technology, and international collaboration can unite the world. The visit left a lasting impression, encouraging them to dream big and consider their role in creating a more peaceful and sustainable world for future generations.
